If Tesla started making smartphones then they would have their own processor chips, own hardware manufacturing department and own operating system with their own app store to download apps
If Tesla made smartphones I think they wouldn't be a good as the huge smartphone makers of today but I think they could make a smartphone with the best battery life (and yes I know software battery optimization is one of the big factors for good battery life) and the phone could have some advantages for Tesla users. (not that everyone has a tesla) but I think it would be hyped so much and end up like the RED Hydrogen. Besides they wouldn't benefit from making a smartphone while their cars are already a success.
But as you know, Elon could make it a "joke".
