All right! I Call this the Price Ladder. So let's say you want to buy an iPad right? Apple gets you in the door with the $330 cheapest iPad and you could just get this one. It's good enough for 98% of people, but the second you want to upgrade then Apple strategy is to walk you as far up the ladder as they possibly can. There's always one that's slightly shiny.

like you don't just want the basic iPad with lightning today, do you? Okay, Well then you can get the slightly better, slightly newer one with USB type-c that iPad is $449 should be fine, but annoyingly these only start at 64 gigs. so you got to bump it up. So now you're looking at the storage upgrade which gets you up to 256 gigs which bumps you up to $5.99 but the iPad Air is $599 But now that starts to 64 gig. So again, bump that up.

now you're at 750. So you how they just walked you up the ladder from 330 all the way to $700 That's mostly enabled by how much they charge for Storage Storage is cheap, but Apple charges a lot for those storage upgrades.

Couldn’t you buy extra memory for 2.99 a month. I mean you still might equal out in the long run but that would take about 3 to 4 years right?

This is why I stay away from Apple. They heavily overcharge you for anything. They do make quality products but so do other companies… They're charging you $150 extra for $12 more worth of storage. Oh and Apple gets their memory for cheaper so it's less than $12 for sure.

Hey Marques, I like watching your regular videos, in english and all, but I'm french and those shorts are forced on me, with no way to deactivate it, with a terribly soulless sounding and non accurate to the video french dub, probably with an IA voice. There's no button to change the audio back to english.

The $329 ipad has 64Gb of storage. I'm a heavy ipad user, had to trade my 64Gb in pretty quick as Apple's OS takes half. My ipad pro cost over $1500. It's nice but I have to protect it like it's a human baby.

Spot on observation Marques! The only thing I would add to what you said is that, when it comes to internal storage, once you're in the Apple ecosystem, they get that money from most people one way or the other. Either you pony up a lot of extra dollars to upgrade the internal storage, or there's a very high probability that you'll have to bump up your iCloud subscription to a more expensive level, which they collect every month, effectively for as long as you're alive. For the long term strategy and for a guaranteed monthly revenue stream, Apple would prefer that you sign up for the more expensive iCloud service level, but they'll get your money either way. It would be comparable to Home Depot and Lowe's being owned by the same company. The idea that there's a choice is an illusion.

I fell for this without even knowing. Bought an ipad air instead of a regular ipad for $100 extra, purely because of the M1 chip.
